After a very brief testing phase, Instagram recently introduced “Search on Map.” A new feature in local searches that allows users to search for nearby businesses and places without ever leaving the app.
The integration between the online and offline worlds is increasingly evident, even at the level of Social Media.
How many of you use the Google My Business Card to read reviews of a given restaurant? And how many search on Instagram for geolocalized photos to be able to taste the menu with your eyes?
This is all very intriguing, giving everyone, especially local businesses, the opportunity to gain more visibility .
After this brief introduction, let's go into the details of Instagram Maps Search.
How does it work?
Maps Search can be accessed via an icon in the Explore section at the top right, near the search bar.
The new feature features an interactive map with photo icons marking places and activities near where you currently are.
The Popular Nearby section immediately catches the eye, showing trending places.
Alternatively, there are buttons that allow you to directly categorize businesses, such as bars and restaurants .
You can also search by hashtag. For example, searching for #takeaway will show popular options nearby that match your search.
The Location Stories
Taking a closer look at the features introduced by Instagram, we can clearly see the return of Location Stories .
Through a geolocation tag, it is possible to see the contents produced by other users who have been in that specific place.
This is where the concept of UGC (User Generated Content) comes into play, which allows local businesses to benefit from the visibility of genuine, ready-to-use content.
Some considerations
Instagram's intentions are easy to understand: to simplify the connection between users and companies .
This new feature makes it easier for businesses to be found by users in their area. On the user side, it will be a more effective way to connect with businesses and discover new places nearby.
